Heyo! If you haven't made plans for this weekend, make sure to put Barnes & Noble's B-Fest on your calendar for this Saturday, September 23rd. It's a great way to meet some of your favorite authors, find others you might not have heard of yet, and, better yet, engage with them!
Check out Barnes & Noble's website to see which stores are hosting an event in your neighborhood. For you Southern Cali readers, be sure to stop by this Saturday, September 23rd - Barnes & Noble - Fullerton, CA - 1 p.m. to hang out with me, Nara Duffie, and other authors! We'll also be signing books and participating in a panel! See ya there!

The town of Lavere is coming together in super-fan Gabriel's Minecraft build of the Salted series world. Crayfish Cavern is also in construction. Check out the video to see Gabriel's progress! #GetSalted My high school mascot was a star. And before all the hecklers come out of the woodwork to label it as a lame mascot, (as my adoring wife does), ask yourself this and be honest...what can defeat a star? Tigers? Eagles? Rockets? Nope. Nope. Nope. Unless your school mascot was 'The Black Holes', you can't take down the stars. The school named ours Orion and its big, blue soul-sucking suit was created by some sort of witchcraft that garnered its awesome power from the buckets of sweat it soaked up from the innocent teens coaxed into donning the outfit in the name of school pride. I know all of this because, of course, I was one of those favored souls given the honor(?) of becoming Orion for exactly one football game. Anyway, I dunno if you would call it our school motto, but I remember a ton of my peers and the faculty endlessly quoting "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." Predictably, we thought that quote was awesome, even though I suppose it's kind of a silly saying. It's basically like 'Hey, aim for (your goal) the moon, but if you miss, just know you will float away in the cold, airless vacuum of space FOR-EV-ERRR. Fast-forward to present day and, with my newest release, I shot for the moon -- make it into the Amazon Top 100 with the first book in my Salted series. Spoiler Alert: I missed the mark. But stars. Well, friends, we had a good run, but it looks like this isn't our year to win the Academy's Nicholl screenwriting competition. My screenplay adaptation of my book, The Grave of Lainey Grace, has officially been eliminated from the competition.
On a brighter(?) note, the screenplay did place in the Top 50 out of 7000+ submissions. So there's that. ;) Big thanks to everyone who emailed, texted, and sent me all the good vibes. All are much appreciated. Also, best of luck to those writers who moved on into the Top 10 and are still competing! And now...back to writing so we can hopefully get 'em next year! |
