Some of you may recall there was a war of words between film critic Gene Gosewehr of Let There Be Movies (LTBM) and myself. The stakes? Fatherly pride and bragging rights for the whole of time. At long last...the results from our combined reader polls are in. Who destroyed their opponent in an epic showdown of fatherly debate? Did your humble narrator help his nemesis see the light of Tangled, or did Gene turn my heart in the wake of a Frozen onslaught? Cue the music Pascal: AND AT LAST GENE SEES THE LIGHT! AND IT'S LIKE HIS FOG HAS LIFTED. AND IT'S WARM AND REAL AND BRIGHT. AND HIS WORLD HAS SOMEHOW SHIFTED! Yes, friends and Tangled fans - WE WON! Here's a breakdown of the debate results, day by day. Big thanks to Gene for compiling all the info in my absence. (*There's a preggo lady in my house ready to evict her little tenant. Baby Galvin should be here any day!) Day 1: It Begins! We began the week by laying all our cards on the table with “opening arguments”. This also served as a gauge to determine the bias of our audience. Your votes surprised us both - we ended up with a 50/50 split on both Gene's site and mine. Day 2: The Love Story What’s a Disney princess movie without a strong love story? We kicked off our first official topic on my blog. Tangled came out on top 67% to 33%. Day 3: The Villains Aren't villains the best? Gene did his best, but according to his LTBM audience, Tangled’s Gothel won that one, 58% to 42%. Day 4: The Music To be honest, I thought if I lost any topic it would be this one. "Let It Go" is a pop culture phenomenon (and rightfully so), though nothing short of combined wooing from Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell will convince me Frozen has a better overall soundtrack. Tangled won the day again with 60% of the vote. Day 5: The Sidekicks I'm often more interested in the supporting cast of films than I am the main players. Man, I swore that I had this topic on lock, but at the end of the day Frozen pulled out a victory as Sven and Olaf demolished the competition, 69% to 31%. Day 6: Life Lessons Finally, we dissected the underlying message in each of these movies. Tangled won again - 62% to 38%. Day 7: Closing Arguments To cap it off we each hosted the concluding arguments. Strangely enough, no one was swayed on either of our blogs. The voting for the closing arguments was exactly even again, 50% to 50%. Thanks to all you readers and voters for playing along. Gene and I had a blast with this. We've discussed doing another debate, but haven't settled on anything. Let us know in the comments if you have any ideas!
Also, check out the awesome reviews over at Gene's site, if you haven't already. Those guys rock. Thanks for reading!

Congrats Aaron on the debate. How about Little Mermaid vs Beauty and the Beast next.

Why thank you, Rebecca. Your proposal is intriguing and probably fairer contest seeing as Gene ended up with a woefully incomparable movie this last time. Ariel vs. Belle would be a fun one. I'll have to talk to Geno and see if we can come up with something. Thanks for the suggestion!
